Catching Flounder

Sitting here at work listening to your podcast and got a question. Lastyear I tried the live bait deal for my first time and had a absolute blast. The hardest part wasnt catchin the lingers, it was catchin the flounder. We were usin jigs and and herring and would get about 8-9 in a hour. You guys mentioned Salt Water power bait? You just slam it to the bottom and let it sit? What about if I balled a bunch of it up on a herring jig set up and slamed that to the bottom? Jacked for that Hali Opener...

By far the simplest way to take about a 1 inch piece of any of the "power" worms that the bass fishers use. Have been getting kids into sole/flounders with that bait for maybe 20 years. Just thread the piece of worm on a # 4 or so on a eagle claw bait hook. Fish it on an 18 inch leader behind enough lead to get to the bottom. An alternate way is to put the weight at the end of the line and fish a couple hooks off droppers.

A packet of worms is good for a whole season worth of flatfish fishing with each piece good for several fish.

Hey Brandon, I was the one who probably babbled "salt water power bait"... I meant to say salt water Gulp.
Flounder just can't leave that stuff alone.
The other option is breaking mussles off pilings at low tide. Break the mussles open and fish the meat of one or two on a #1 or 1/0 hook close to the sinker (Like Smalma said..).

Sand dabs are then best fished on a 3' 50lb leader and a pair of 5/0 hooks tied the full length of the flounder. Hook the flounder through the upper jaw so he can easily breathe and let the back hook dangle.

Remember, when Mr. Ling comes a callin' let him eat it!!! Reel into the bite and then pick out a ling recipe!!!

Seems like when Im trollin around with salmon gear there easy to come by. Then when I actually target them i struggle. LOL Thanks for the help.
