Knife for herring

Postby Danno » Mon Mar 31, 2014 6:26 pm

I'm looking for recommendations for a good knife for plug-cutting herring. I have two wood handled knifes that I use now. I've seen knives used in videos, including one by Nellie, that showed a blue handled knife with a 3 inch(?) thin blade that seemed to work very well.
I think I also saw Capt. Keizer use the same type on his site. Help?
Thanks.

I like to use a good quality paring knife like a JA Henkels or similar quality. It might cost you a couple bucks more but it will last a lifetime.

I use a fillet knife with a slightly shorter blade as it seems to give a cleaner cut than the super short Victorianox-type blades and it's easier to hold on to. Matter of preference I guess ;)
