Trying a new blackmouth location

Postby Duckhunter » Mon Jan 20, 2014 11:08 am

I fish the south sound for blackmouth but its dead thinking of going up north. I want to know what boat launches are recommended. I have a 20 ft open tiller so i am looking for somewhere without a huge run to get on fish. I appreciate any help. I have downriggers so i will be trolling.

Hey DH,
I don't blame you for heading north. It's as good as I've seen it in a number of years! thumbup
If you want to launch on the west side of the sound, there's Port Townsend, Midchannel bank is a kicker warm-up away from the ramp.

You may be able to launch at Pt. No Point and again, fire up the kicker,,,you're there..!

The sling at Edmonds gives you a quick run to Richmond beach and a reasonable run to Possession.

There's always Mukilteo for an easy run to Possession Bar as well!

Hope that helps and for some killer maps of these areas, grab a copy of John Martinis excellent book

Good luck!!!

Port of Edmonds has a nice sling launch (cost is about $25 for 20 ft boat) and gets you to within about 4-5 miles of Possession Bar.

Also, Washington Park in Anacortes is easy access to Fidalgo head, Lopez Flats, Reef Point, Strawberry Island and Tide Point. All are an easy run from the launch.
I was out at Lopez flats last Thurs and got 3 to the boat. Today at Tide Point we got 4 in boat (one was too small and got sent back).
He could also catch the Clinton ferry and launch at Keystone for Mid Channel Bank.
