Sky sunday

Went to the sky today before the hawks game. Hit reiter as well as a couple other spots on the river. It was rough out there! Didn't see a single fish caught on either side and it was around 15 degrees. Think it was just too cold. Hope it picked up once the sun hit the water and warmed things up but I had the hawks game to watch.

I took a freind out on Friday for a float down the river in the drift boat. Fishing was tough but we scratched up a few including this nice little winter run hen...



A few birds flying around with the ponds all frozen up. We definitely took care of a few fish eaters including this nice drake Hooded.



It was definitely cold out there but when bundled up right, it wasn't that bad. Also, the river is real quit and nice during the winter.




Can't wait to get out again!!!

What time were those mostly biting at? Once the sun hit the water or were you picking them up all day?

Hopefully I will be able to work it again this next weekend and have the time to stay longer than just 4 hours in the morning.

I feel like I get most bites between daylight and noon, even in the cold. I like the low light conditions in the AM, especially with the water being as clear as it is. The fish are less spooky than when the sun is high in the sky in the drift boat. That being said, I've caught fish at the hatchery throughout the whole day in the cold so I think location and presentation is more important than timing.

Great stuff guys. I always like fishing the tail out of a drift as the sun hits the water in cold conditions. I would guess that 75% of the fish that I have hooked in the cold have been after 8:00 am.

Went out again on Sunday... we went 2-3 on steelhead, a couple nice coho, some chum and some dollies.

But what do I know, I'm just a bass fisherman...

Sounds like a great day on the river Nick. Good fishermen adapt to their surroundings. I fished with you on Nelly's boat and can attest to your fishiness. I love those multiple species days on the river.

Good Work! Going to be going out a lot more, to learn the river even more. I just bought my first drift boat today. Can't wait to get it on the water. Hopefully will be slaying some steel soon enough!
