Vertical rod storage holders on your boat

Postby baddawg » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:52 am

I have an older Arima with the gunnal mount rod storage holders simular to these:
http://www.berkley-fishing.com/products/tools-equipment/classics/rod-rack-horizontal-4-rod-black

the foam is pretty much shot and everything falls out of them fairly easily. I really don't store any rods in these, they are used more for boat hooks, ez steer connector, stern light, dehooker, etc...

What do you have on your boat? Pros and cons? Any real cool new things out there that you would reccomend?

Thanks for the input!

Hey Dawg,
When you say "Arima", I think "walk-around" which has a different set of rod storage challenges than hard-tops.
For the angler who owns a hard top, rod storage is best handled by multiple "rocket launchers" located at the rear of the roof!

You're right to be considering vertical rod storage for your walk-around and fortunately there are several models to choose from!

These chrome beauties from floridasportfishing.com have the ability to double as grab rails and will be a durable, attractive and handy addition to your boat

For a bit le$$ coin, this four-rod unit from candomarineparts.com will handle your sticks securely and economically!

Adequate, handy and well-placed rod storage is the mark of a serious angler and it's great to see that you're making this improvement on your boat! :D

Baddawg you own a boat that is very popular in the NW cause they are built right here in auburn.Cause of the popularity of your boat web sites have been formed to share ideas that work with the boat you own. http://arimaboatownersgroup.yuku.com/ is one of the best web sites for information about arimas. The members of this web site are very nice and very helpful. Before you spend the time and money on something make sure its going to work for your boat.In my opinion the best way to do that is to ask those who have knowledge of your boat.In the world today we have this great thing called the internet that gives us the power to find information about most things.I know for a fact that you can google most types of boats and find groups of people with that same boat, who have come togather to share valueable information that will help make your boat even better than it is.Go to that web site look around and then post the question to other arima owners.Hope you find the right solution to your problem.

I guess I should have been more specific. The type of rod/equipment holder I am looking for mounts vertically, holding the objects horizontally. I am a member of a couple of arima owner sites, but haven't seen much besides what I already have. I could just replace the ones I have with the same thing, just looking for different options.
Any more ideas out there?

why the edit job on the link i posted to the arima group?Isnt the goal of forums like this to help people?I see links to products is ok,but we cant post links to sites that might actually help someone find a solution rather than sell them a product they might not need.Really is that what this site is all about, just pimping products.

Was someone trying to sell anything in this post? I don't think so. I posted a link to Motion Marine, who makes quite a few different products and any one of which may or may not have helped. Do they sponsor anything on this site...NO :!: I simply posted a link to another site. Nelly posted a couple of photos of rodholders that he dug up on the net...one of which was to another forum site in Florida.

Hey Rapala,
Baddawg asked a question and I answered it to the best of my ability. I have no relationship with the rod holder company that I suggested but even if I did I fail to see a problem or conflict of interest.

The question was asking for a specific product recommendation.

So let me ask you: How does one answer that question without indicating/advocating a particular product?

My goal and the goal of my partners here on The Outdoor Line is to help people by providing the best information available.

Thanks for joining and posting on our forums and I hope you continue to contribute!

Nelly I think you and Robbo are being a little defensive and failed to answer his original question.
He asked why someone edited the link he posted! I don't know what is different from his original post???
I see the reference to the arima owners group but it is not highlighted as a hyperlink. I hope this helps to clarify.

Hey Dan & Rapala,
I've corrected the edit, reactivating the link.
I'm a little new to this moderator thing and that's the first time I've ever changed anyone's post.
The reason I edited it was that it was a active link to another message board.
I did not change or delete the info but I merely made that board one more click away.
Like I said, this is a new venture for me and I'm learning as I go.
Thanks, T
