Lake Sammamish Cutthroat Trout Fishing

While Lake Washington seems to be turning over at the moment, we switched our focus to Lake Sammamish. Every year about this time there's a hatch going on in the lake. You'll see several birds sitting on top of the water or hovering overhead scooping up loads of bugs hatching from the lake.

The north end tends to be the hot spot. Trolling in 30 to 60 feet of water. We've been pulling leadcore line with Needlefish Spoons from our kayaks. The past three trips we have landed 7-10 fish between the two of us in each outing. Though the fish are skinnier than Lake Washington cutthroat, a couple were 18-19". All were released. Sounds like fun. I'm heading to lake WA on Thursday for the 1st time. Was gonna troll on the south end. Any tips would be appreciated. Was wondering roughly how deep the cuts are this time of year? Thanks.

Lake Washington has been really slow for cutthroat. The lake is turning over and the fishing may be better at the south end of the lake and closer to the Cedar River. I haven't fished the south end this year. If you can find the bait, you'll find the fish. We are getting them 15 to 20 feet down in a variety of depths. Good luck. If you want to catch fish, hit the north end of Lake Sammamish. We've been getting several each trip out.

Ok great. I will post my report when I get back. Thanks for the help. Also... I don't have my rods rigged with lead core line. I was just gonna let out about 100ft of line and then drop the downrigger down. Think that will be ok? Or is lead core line the only way to go?

Sorry for the late reply. Absolutely, down riggers work as well. You'll want to get down where the fish are.
