My first time usin' a delta diver was this summer down at B10 with Nelly.
I thought they were damn effective!
Both side rods used lead and fished the bottom. I ran a delta 15 pulls out the back fishin' that mid column and man! did it work!
In certain fisheries I think divers definitely have their place.
That week at B10, we marked fish on the bottom as well as mid column where that diver was the perfect tool.
We also fished the ocean one day using nothing but divers and hooked several chinook and coho. Obviously your not gonna wanna run one on blackmouth or a fishery where you need to be in the bottom but places where you want be in that top part of the water or where fish will be drawn to that surface activity... they're great!

I have been using deep sixes for years and don't discount them for kings either. In the ocean I don't feel like I have all of my depths covered without at least one deep six down. Sometimes as little as 4-12 pulls for big kings as well as silvers!

There have been many tirps over the years that the deep sixes were the only thing catching. Downriggers were dead. Everyone should have them in their tackle arsenol.

If you are to put a herring on or anything that spins, be sure to add a bead chain or ball bearing swivel to your leader or you are going to wind it up. The swivels that come on it are not the high quality spinning type.

Something I forgot to mention is that I do not run the heavy weighted deep sixes with the large weights on them with downriggers, they will tangle into your downriggers. Use the light weighted standard ones.

We have always been taught that you cannot run a hootchy without a flasher or something to give it action. I have caught some 10-12 pound blackmouth at high tide on a deep six with only a green/glow hootchy here in the sound. If you get it back aways (42' on the line counter my favorite on a deep six for winter time) you can see some sort of action or pulse on that rod. So something is happening back there. Fish seem to rise up at high tide in the winter.

Deep sixes are something that everyone should use from time to time.
