Beach casting line selection

With the primary idea of beach casting plug cut herring for coho and a secondary idea to try twitching jigs in rivers, I just bought the Berkley Buzz Ramsey series 8'6" Medium Spinning rod rated for 8-12lb line. For the cranking end of that rod, I bought the Pflueger Trion GX-7 4735GX with 120yd/10lb capacity. What line do you all recommend I spool that reel with? Can I get by with the same line for both beach and bank fishing? Waiting to hear any and all opinions. Thanks.

Hey RS,
From the beach its hard to beat braid.
Look for a 15 or 20 pound test, smooth finish like a Daiwa Samurai braid and uni-knot a 6 foot section of clear mono as a "top shot".
Terminal knots are simple with mono and you'll also enjoy increased abrasion resistance and just a little forgiveness in the form of mono's stretch when you're playing that big fish

30 pound braid would be my choice also. The only thing you'll have to watch out for when your twitching jigs is getting the braid wrapped around the rod tip. Most Daiwa Aird's came with two spools now so you can rig one up with braid and the other with mono. You have it all covered with one spinning reel

Thanks Robbo. I did get an extra spool so can carry a loaded spare. I bought a cheap reel based on observing and talking to regulars at the beach where I will fish. They say the sand and salt is just brutal on reels and recommend I buy cheap and replace regularly. It's OK with me since I don't know how much I will get out. See you at the boat show.
