Possession Fishing Mishap

Postby Devon Edwards » Sat Jul 06, 2013 5:11 pm

My buddy was fishing Possession today and had an awful thing happen...he was trolling east to west between the bouy at Possesion and Scatchet....he was in about 40' of water and had about 25' of wire out...he said he rod popped off the downrigger and then buried as he went to grab it the rod holder snapped right where it goes into the holder and all he saw was his gear flying into the water rod and reel (only 2nd time he has used then)....he brought up his ball and it had red paint scuffs on it....does anyone know what is on the bottom that he might have snagged is gear on? He said he was half way between the bouys when this happened.....needless to say he was sick to his stomach.

Wow! :?

That's a new one to me!!!

Did he mark it as a waypoint? At least you could reference the location on a paper chart and determine if there is a documented wreck on that location.
When I snag a downrigger ball, I mark the location with my Lowrance chartplotter with a skull and cross bones symbol.
That way, I can visit my lost balls.... And possibly prevent giving them some "company"... rofl

Wow, that SUCKS! I too mark a spot if I lose a down rigger ball, for the same reason Tom does.
Seams a little strange that the line would release from the clip and then have enough force to snap a rod holder before the drag on the reel started to peel off line. Weird stuff can happen when you are out fishing...... :( :o  bangheadwall
