Ling Cod Opener '13!!!

Postby Nelly » Wed May 01, 2013 2:31 pm

Solid ling action and flat calm sunny weather was on tap for this years lingcod opener!

I managed to land a fat and sassy ling that measured 32" and weighed close to 17 pounds!

Unfortunately, this ling was closer to 40" than is was to a legal 36" so it went back into the bay after a quick pic!

John Martinis aboard "Professor of Puget Sound" Gary Krein's boat the "Morning Star" had a great opener on Area 9

The ling opener runs through June 15th and keep in mind the slot limit is 26" to 36"! Good luck out there! thumbup

Good to see all the fish. Hope the weather holds with calm water so us worker bees can get out and join the fun this Saturday.

It sure was a fun day out there. Great weather, good water, and plenty of action. For the first hour all we could get were rockfish but then the lings finally woke up. A great day! It was a bit comical to see far away we could spot your boat. Big Red sure stands out!

Happy Fishing,

I picked up this little beauty on the opener, in Area 10. It just scraped on the inside of 36 inches.

I haven't made it up to the bar yet, but I hope to next week.

Tomorrow we are dropping shrimp pots and doing a little ling fishing while they soak. Then it's pack up and drive to Westport for the halibut opener on Sunday.

It's one hell of a weekend ahead. Why am I not in bed yet?

I was out fishing some rocks while waiting for the shrimp pots to soak. My buddy hooked into this nice Ling. 35 3/4 in and 16lb 12oz.
