PSA Winter BM derby

Postby kurtmiller » Sun Mar 24, 2013 12:55 pm

My first money fish in a derby, one of only 8 caught yesterday by 45 entrants, it was a pretty slow day out there so I was very happy. Okay so it wasn't $15,000 but 90 bux cash pays for the gas and entry fee, and it sure as hell beats getting skunked like 37 other guys did. Caught him at DB on Qcove red racer with white lightning waggle tail coho killer. Also lost another one that decided to swim with the other flasher before we could get it out of the water, by the time we got untangled he was long gone, felt like a bigger fish (of course). We also released about a 20# or so hali and an 8# or so Ling, so you know we were bouncin bottom in 100 to 130 feet. Just wish we'd gone there first instead of wasting a couple of hours at PoBar. The guy in the red shirt behind me won it with a 9+ lb'er (on the scale in front of me). Most of the fish entered were from DB except the winner, which came from "Hat Island'ish". This guy had 20 or 25 of the tiniest candlefish I've ever seen, maybe 1 1/2 inches long and a 1/4 inch deep, plus his cheeks were all scratched up so GO SMALL.

Nice work KM!
Sure sounds like you had a solid day out there and congratulations on finishing in the money!
I have heard a bunch of reports of halibut in A9 as well... This could be a very interesting spring! thumbup
