Salmon Camp...Need Rain

Postby Robbo » Tue Oct 09, 2012 9:09 pm

Medium D and I just spent a fun couple of days at salmon camp with Don Fenton and Don Torset from Truck Vault and John Posey from Lamiglas Rods.

Our rendezvous point was Rocky's salmon camp located on one of the SW Washington rivers. Medium D has been staying here for a couple of years and I can see why...killer place to hang out for the night. We weren't the only cats staying there. Met a bunch of cool dudes at salmon camp the last couple of days thumbup

The boys from Truck Vault rolled into camp in Fenton's jacked up Chevy sporting all the latest gear from Truck Vault

There has been zero rain forever and the rivers down there are bone dry. Nonetheless we decided to float one of them in hopes of finding some bright fish, as they've been pushing into the river the last few days. Posey was first to hook up on a dark king that still put a good bend in this Dave Vedder series bobber rod thumbup

Don Torset hooked up with "black chrome" thumbup

On my boat we found one bright silver, some dark kings, and a couple of hot chums to pull us around on day one and on MD's boat Posey picked up a phat 30 pound bronze back that he kicked back. Nothing to sneeze at, but not what we were looking for. We wanted chrome!

Back to camp to regroup and sit around the fire again for the night. With no rain for months the fish would no doubt be stacked up out in the bay...our next stop.

Luckily our friend Eyefish had room on his big sled the next day for a trip on the bay, where the salmon fishing had been pretty darned good lately.

It's no secret that Doc has the bay wired. Trolling 7 rods is not a problem on his boat

We popped a couple of ho's on the morning tide and then Fenton layed into this nice blinger king that we quickly released thumbup

There was a prolonged lull mid day until the afternoon tide change lit things up again. We ended up hooking a bunch of cohos on that tide and Torset seemed to have the hot rod for the late bite.

A huge thank you to Doc and his sidekick Sean for taking us out today. It was flat as a French pancake out there and we had a blast man :!: :!: :!: :!:

We need rain in a big way to kick off the salmon fishery on the coastal rivers and by the sounds of the forecast we may get the shot we need this weekend. I'm digging this sunshine though :D

Good to hang out with the guys from Truck Vault and of course my old freind John Posey from Lamiglas. Thanks for setting this up Medium D...yet another fun adventure man. Life is good cheers

What a great time... Posey and The "Two Dons", almost sounds like a rock band. Truly great guys to hang with and man did we have a good time. Thanks again for coming out guys, it was a blast. The rain will come and the fishing will get really stupid.

Nice job guys!
It looks like you're going to get the rain soon.
In fact, today just may be the last dry one for a while... Quite a while.. like three months or so...

Thanks for everything Rob and crew. For those that don't know you or have never met and spent time with you they are missing out. "Medium D" appears to be a great addition to your posse...knowledgeable, fun guy with a good strong back on the oars. I can just see you all now rocking Outdoor Line ascots in the near future. Looking forward to a return trip...maybe I will bring my guitar and play in my ascot as we drift the Hump...while eating humus and sipping high brow wine or single malt scotch and exchanging drift boat F-bombs with Superfly?
