Bass to Tuna

Postby Salmonhawk » Wed Aug 01, 2012 9:16 pm

Sorry for the late report but I figure better late than never. I am blessed to have two boys that love to fish, the only problem is Mason loves to fish nothing but saltwater and Madden wants to do nothing but bass fish so this past weekend we did both.
First up was a Saturday morning bass fishing on Lake Wa. the day started a little slow for topwater so we switched over to a drop-shot and started catching. Unfortunately, I was catching perch while Madden was loading up on bass all morning.

After a morning of freshwater fishing it was time to think Westport and Tuna. Mason and I loaded the boat and prepared it for a long offshore run the next day. We met Capt. John Keizer the next morning in WP, bought some bait and headed offshore to some numbers that Keizer had scored from Killer Bee. We stopped just short of the numbers after a long run and started our troll. We kept picking off one or two fish on the troll but we couldn't get a good live bait stop going. After awhile, fishing slowed so we picked up and ran to some numbers that Tower Todd had given me but before we got there we saw jumpers so back in with the gear.
Still unable to get a good bait stop going we decided to keep trolling after a hookup and drop back some swimbaits. This helped us get a few doubles and triples but we still wanted to get a good bait stop going. The next school of jumpers we saw, Mason jumped up on the bow and tossed a swimbait, immediately he hooked up as I shut everything down. This enabled us to get our best bait stop of the day going as we boated 6 fish before things died. With 24 fish on the boat we decided to troll home and soon after landed two more fish. with 26 on ice and it getting to be mid-afternoon we decided to head back to the dock.

Way to go Rob....sounds like a perfect couple days with the boys. That's what it's all about! I can't wait for the day that the boys are schooling the old man on the water.
