Runnin' from the lightning!

Got out today for some resident coho and got a little more that I bargained for!

I saw a few lightning strikes to the west as I left the house and assumed that -as most fronts do- pass us moving to the east and we would be in the clear... Uh,, no...

Once we got out into north Admiralty Inlet we started hearing thunder and saw a few flashes..

That's when the Lowrance Sirius Satellite weather hit us with a thunderstorm alarm and displayed strikes! Also the Lowrance indicated that the storm was heading our way! Check out all of the lightning strike symbols (red circles with the yellow lightning bolt)

By the time we started heading back, the lighning strikes were all around us, New underwear time for Nelly!!!

I've never before experienced a thunderstorm on the water of this intensity and I've never been so glad to have a satellite weather system on board!!!

Cool display. Canceled crabbing until Sunday with more of the same weather expected for tomorrow. Aluminum boat, water and lightening - pass.

Was camping and crabbing out of Camano Island state partk and had thunder and lighting all day FRiday (from 4:00 AM until after 10:PM). During a mid-mroning lull in the thunder activity hit the water to check the pots and got caught in another of thunder and lighting. When I started seeing lighting strikes hitting the water less than 3 miles away me and my "tin" boat headed to the beach for an emergency landing to wait out the storm. In the hour we were on the beach saw 7 or 8 stikes hitting the water. As soon as that of activity past checked the last couple pots and ran for safety.

Have never seen so many lighting strikes hitting the water as yesterday - a better day for card playing and adult beverages than crabbing.

Son of a gun Nelly...I didn't even know my weather pod would display lightning. We seldom have lightning like that here in SE AK in the summer thank goodness. Pretty awesome feature!
