Worms found in salmon

Postby Madcow00 » Tue Jul 10, 2012 8:08 pm

Caught a Chinook in the San Juans (Eagle Bluff) and found the body cavity filled with what looks like tapeworms although I don't think they are. Intertwined around the vital organs not actually in the organs. Maybe 30-40 worms. Is the salmon still edible? Meat looks good. This is the first time I've seen these. Can't seem to find any reference about these on line. Any Ideas?

Sushi anyone?

Actually the fish will be find for the table as long it is cooked. All the parasites (if indeed that was what they were) found in the stomach are removed when the fish is cleaned.

While there often are some parasits in the flesh of many meats they are all killed with cooking and are harmless.
