Hootchies or Spoons?

If you were limited to one which would you use?

I posed this question to Nelly on the radio and he gave a good answer. I thought I would ask it here.

I understand we are not limited to one or the other.
The reason I came up with the question is:
I fish by myself mostly, I was in area 6 on the 5th of July from seeing birds I determined the bait was candlefish or orange herring. I put on an anchovie and started catching dogs. I had needle fish squids and coho killers rigged up. I went with the coho killer and anchovie smelly jelly. It paid off with two small hatchery kings. Since I can only fish with one at a time if I'm by myself why not just have a big selection of one or the other?

Probably a dumb question I could have shortened it up. Being a died in the wool moocher for 40 years I don't know much about spoons or hootchies. Which one do you think catches the mostest fishes?

I am about as green as the horn gets,this only being my 4th summer of fishing,my first couple of chinook I landed on spoons last year.When humpie time came around I wasn't having much luck with just a buzz bomb so I added a little red tail wagger hootchie to the end of the buzz bomb(I call this the hootchie bomb) and couldn't keep the silvers off the lines,(that's a good thing)never did catch a humpie all year but I had a freezer full of cohos. mmm mmm mmm.I heard Nelly's answer to the question and plan on applying more hootchie tactics this year.

First off, thanks for listening and participating on air!

I appreciate both of your experiences with differing gear types and I can honestly say that I've seen some of those same things.

As long as you are always trying to match the predominate bait size, you're on the right track.
With hoochies, you can always trim to size or dress them up with skirts, beads and herring strips.

Spoons have that added action and flash that can really spark a bite!

I love the Ace-Hi Fly. I had the best chinook year last year due to that lure. The 142 is my color of choice, but the blue and the white have their place too.
