June 2012 Fish Report and Newsletter

The fishing season is underway on the west coast, and it has been a great start. Salmon fishing has been very good with a couple of tyee’s already taken. We are seeing great numbers of fish just off the beach in 120-150 ft of water. Lots of double headers already are making it a very exciting fishery. There are already a few Coho around in the mix as well. With Coho around this early and consistent Chinook fishing, it is looking like another banner year for Zeballos and Esperanza. Limits of Chinooks and Halibut have been taken by the last few groups. We have even been throwing a few back - yes, it’s that good. There aren't too many places that can say this.

The Vancouver Island halibut fishing is holding up to its typical June reputation. A few mornings ago we had a triple-header with two fish in the 50lb range and one just over 100lbs. We had five fish to the boat in thirty minutes with none under 50lbs. Consistent limits of fish in the 40-80lb range are being taken in a very short time. Where else can you get this kind of fishing! Salmon belly and octopus seem to be on the menu right now, and Salmon heads have also taken a few fish.

At the lodge things are looking great. Our new chef Luke Delloch is preparing some excellent meals, I think everyone will be very impressed. We still have a couple of spots to fill later in the season. Give me a call or drop me a line to get in on this world class fishery.
