Well I fed my first 10 lb. ball to the great gods of the JUANS! The lesson I learned being I have one Scotty and one Cannon is that a Cannon down rigger won't blow the ball off the end of the cable.How ever when you change your boom on a Scotty from a 30'' to the full extension boom and you forget to readjust the shut off beads the Scotty with it's high speed abilities has no problem blowing the ball right off the end of the cable.BY BY BALL and rudder and snubber and release clip and really cool Diamond D's bait sound flasher I was running off of the rudder.I started the day talking about buying another Scotty for a third rigger,I ended the day talking about puting the Scotty up for sale and buying two more Cannons.

Sounds like your blaming the downrigger for a mistake you made.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm a member of Cannon's Pro-Staff which makes me a bit biased, but here's my honest take:

I've run Penn's, Scotty's and Cannons... and run all of them for several years.
Penn is basically out of the 'rigger market now and Scotty makes a good product.

In my personal experience, Cannon is a superior product. Cannons have the capability to do more for you and do so dependably.

When Minn Kota and Cannon teamed up, it was a huge win for Cannon.
Instead of a simple on/off switching of a high speed motor which can be problematic, Cannons step through 5 speeds so the ball starts -and stops- quite smoothly which makes life a lot easier on the end of your cable.

When you take a good look at what's available in a Cannon, you'll see an American-made, feature-filled product that deserves serious consideration from anyone looking to install a top-quality downrigger on their boat

Sounds like some one did not read the entire post,I believe I said I made the mistake of not resetting the shut off beads taking full blame for operator head space.By no means do I blame Scotty for losing my gear.I was mearly pointing out that with a Cannon you won't run into this problem if you happen to forget a detail such as having to reset or constantly readjust the beads.Cannon has just seem to have put out a little more user friendly product with a little more room for error.Besides dude don't kick a guy when he's down,that was my first down rigger ball sacrifice.It hurts I'm feeling the loss.$$$$$$$$$$

I lost a 15 lb ball Monday. I was tying on a different rig. When I was done I fired up the main and roared back up to make another pass, but I neglected to bring the ball in the boat. Them damn Scottys are just no good.
