Crawfishing

Postby BothellBikeGuy » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:26 am

Yesterday, I went to check my crawfish pots and one was missing. Is crayfish pot russling something I should be concerned with on Lake Washington?

I've been trying to figure this crawfishing thing out on Lake Washington and have dropped a couple of pots on 4 seperate occasions with not very impressive results. On this last trip I let them soak over the weekend under the I-90 bridge on the East Channel between the pilings. I've done this enough times where I'm fairly confident that it didn't drift away or disappear on it's own. Wondering if I should look into a sinking bouy system or give up since those mudbugs seem more elusive than I orginally thought they would be. Especially if I have to count pot theft into the equation.

It's a bummer because I kind of like the concept of fishing when I'm not there and with each trip out to check the pots I get an opportunity to fish for bass and perch:)

Tobeck "lost" his crawdad pots once...
In fact, the circumstances were so "unusual",...I wrote a blog about it!

Man you set Nelly up good there, now he gets to relive his proudest moment ever. Other than the "incident" I haven't experienced anyone tampering with my pots. I will say that so far this year my results have been less than stellar as well. In previous years I have soaked pots in the area you are talking about and not done very well at all. I am planning on venturing out and trying new spots, I hear that the Seward park area can be good but I couldn't verify that with experience.

Thanks for the heads up - I didn't consider that possibility:) Maybe I should be expecting a call from our friends at WDFW. At least I learned somthing - I used zip ties to close my traps since I failed to bring anything else. Know I know I better use the cotton cord.
