Sitka 2012: They're on the way!!!

Postby Nelly » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:11 pm

Our annual pilgramage to Sitka, Alaska is always full of twists and turns... Every year is different and this season is no exception!

Phil Michelsen shows off the biggest king of the trip (Settle down Phil, it's only day two...) which was a chrome 24lber!

I cracked the 20lb mark shortly after with this "Sitka cookie cutter" king!

At the end of the day we had kings to the mid 20's, coho to the mid teens and an even-year humpy!!!

The weather in southeast Alaska has laid down flat calm and sunny,..which is fine but the fish being in a cooperative mood makes things even better!

Phil Michelsen and Larry Stauffer with the results of a double header! A fine pair of chrome chinook salmon!

We loaded the fishbox with dandy halibut ranging from 40 to 91 pounds... I walked behind the line-up, wondering if the "Sitka Sportfishing" sign was going to survive the load?!?!

We've got a few days left and with building weather we're keeping our fingers crossed but all systems are "go" in Sitka! thumbup

One last report before we return tomorrow! It was a great season for us and the weather was pretty dialed in too!

Dave Heiser notched the largest king of the trip with this 29 (the digital scale just wouldn't make it a 30lber.. :|) The interesting thing is that, again the biggest king came on the middle rigger!

On our last day of Sitka halibut fishing Larry worked on cranking in our limit-out halibut while Dave Heiser offers some encouragement... which helps when you're cranking 500' of braid...
