Skagit Opener... They're here!!

Postby JohnnyCoho » Sat Jun 02, 2012 3:15 pm

After bombarding Robbo and Big T. with live time text photos from each catch from yesterdays summer King opener on the Skagit (Sorry for the data usage Big T. wave ) I owe to my Broheim a posted report here.

June 1st, 2012: Definitely one of the best openers in a long time!! Brought back some memories of guiding up on the Nushagak River in AK and watching the Kings roll their way up the river as the push came in and moving the boat just ahead of the moving fish playing leap frog long enough to catch them on their way up. That was yesterdays opening day on the Skagit. River was on the rise and the fish were flat hauling arse upriver. Honestly can't remember how many we hooked into yesterday but it was a mix of Hatchery and Wild Kings and Wild Steelhead as well. We fished Jigs, Side Drifted Bait and Plugs all day off and on (Johnny like the new Looney Lure plugs!! clap )

June 2nd, 2012: Back out there again this morning to a high and very colored Skagit. Maybe 2-3 feet of visibility at over 9,000cfs. Definitely had to change up today to some high water techniques fishing totally different water than yesterday. Basically had to find some fish hiding spots away from the high flows and debris. Cascade River was puking today!! Managed to hook into 3 nice Kings again today... They're here!!... Let's just hope here today and not gone tomorrow, especially for our "Wounded Warriors In Action" trip scheduled for next weekend. Hope to see some of you there June 9th at "Howard Miller Steelhead Park" for our WWIA Chili Feed and raffle!! We have some great raffle items donated from "Ted's Sport Center" ,"Lamiglas", "Three Rivers Marine", "Holiday Sports" and more!!

Here's some of the fish porn I bombarded Robbo and Big T. with yesterday along with a couple pics from today's fish:

The first text came in at 4:12 a.m. Alaska time on a morning when I would've liked to have slept in. I rolled over and checked out the fish photo...nice king...cool...back to sleep sleep1

...and on and on it went. I finally got out of bed and went to work just after 5:00. Figured Coho was up I might as well be up to. I know damn well he was laughing his ass off each and every time he hit the "send" button. After I woke up I got a good chuckle out of it too :D

Great to see some kings in God's country Johnny and hope you continue to put the schwackin' on'em. No more texts though brother...every 5 minutes of sleep counts up here sleep1 sleep1 sleep1 sleep1

Because 5:12 a.m. is so much better boxing

Reminded me of you flyfishing River X with some guests some years ago while I was on a gear trip down the street. I think you sent me around 100 texts that day while you were watching the paint dry on various gravel bars. At first it was funny, then it was annoyoing, then it was really annoying, then I got pissed, and then I pissed down my pant leg laffing my ass off rofl rofl

The texts...they just kept coming!!!!!
