Setting up a New HDS?

Postby David » Sat Apr 21, 2012 9:32 pm

I have finally finished installing a new HDS 10 Gen 2 (with structure scan and the fuel flow sensor)) and could use a little help to get jump started. I have been a Garmin guy since the beginning, so I'm starting over learning this unit. I have only just begun to play with this in the driveway, and it is completely different from what I'm used to. Can anyone give me some basic setup info for fishing the salt? Are there particular settings that I should start with other than the default ones? Screen setups that you have found to be most useful, etc.? Any advice would be appreciated.

Here's a great video that John Keizer put together a couple of years ago to get you started

I'll be installing my new Gen 2's on the charter boat first thing when I get back to Alaska. On my HDS units I always have the soft keys turned on so I can always see my sensitivity and color line settings. On my boat I usually have the sensitivity set to around 92%, but I sometimes have to adjust it up or down slightly depending on how many other boats are around. I can post the rest of my settings once I get the boat back in the water in Late May.
