Lake Washington

After hopping on air for a quick visit with the fellas this morning I hit Lake Wa. for a couple of hours looking for some cutts. I put my gear down and immediately got hit by a nice jumping cutt off the back of the boat. As quick as it hit, it was gone. After seeing a few more jumping fish but not having any action I decided to switch from a cut plud to a herring strip on a wedding ring. Another 30 minutes go by and wham!, this dandy cutt made my day. This thing was ocean fresh with lice on it.

Congrats on a great fish - got to love the fish the big lake provides at time.

However I doubt the fish had been to the salt. While difficult to tell from the photo it looks to me that the "lice" are a freshwater parasite.

BTW -
Did you by chance check to see whether the fish had hyoid teeth - located on the base of the tongue - back where the gill slits start.

I couldn't agree more about what that lake can offer, I sometimes wonder what is in there that we don't catch because we aren't targeting them. You could be right about the "lice", they did look a little different to me and yes, I did check for the teeth.

I have smoked them in the past when I have kept one but this time I decided I would try one for the grill. I found the flavor to be very bland, it wasn't bad or fishy tasting but bland, I don't anticipate keeping one for any future grilling.

But don't eat too many of them!, the cutties in Lake WA have a high content of mercury in em.
They have warnings signs posted at some of the lakes ramps that tell you to limit your monthly intake.
