Well, we ended up going a little higher up towards Blewett pass. We couldn't locate any sign and a prospector told us the elk moved out and that he had seen them N of Ellensburg. We went back to Mineral pass since that is where we saw the most sign during deer season before finally going N. of Ellensburg for the last 2 days of the season. It was there where we saw the freshest sign but just not enough time to catch up with them.
We did see a lot of country and a cougar (didn't have my tag) and for my first elk hunt I felt pretty successful just getting out there and getting started.
