After an up and down summer for tuna, I have been jonesing to get out one last time to scratch that tuna itch. Between weather, things happening at the office, and the boys playing football on the weekends I figured the season was over for me. That was until last Wednesday when Todd Schwartz " Tower Todd" gave me a call and mentioned that Ken Pinell and Efishnsea teammate Vance were heading out on Sunday, I took this as an invite and jumped in.
After a late Saturday night watching Mason's team win their football game I got a couple hours of sleep and then up at 3:30 for the drive to Westport. The plan was to meet about 6:30, tie some leaders and take care of a few things, grab some bait and head out. We had an easy run out was nice on Todd's boat and put one line out at 9:15. At 9:18 we had our first fish on. I played the trolled fish while everyoine else got bait in the water, 11 fish later the bite slowed and it was back to trolling. After about 15 minutes we had another taker and this time we boated 20 fish on the stop. 31 fish and it was barely after 11 in the morning. We took some time to care for the fish and make a sandwhich but before we could finish it was fish on again. We caught 3 or 4 at a time until the boat was finally plugged with 44 tuna!! Did I mention that it's October?
What a great way to finish off the season. It's always fun to jump on someone else's boat and pick up a few things by watching and learning from other good fisherman. I am already looking forward to next year. Of course, I could certainly be talked in to heading out for one last trip this year.
