Eddy,

No trying to insult anyone,

Why do I care that 10 people a day call and ask how many people are signed up for the tournament? Because we do have a business to run. This tournament is something that I am helping to do because people have been asking for something like this for a long time. But getting flooded with phone calls asking the same question over and over makes it a little hard to take care of our customers and the business that is providing the funds to make this a reality. At first we were answering every person that asked how many had signed up, but after a while, Decided we would not share that number until we meet our "Early Jackpot Entrants" (first 25 teams). I have not been trying to "avoid" the question about how many teams are signed up, just not answering it. It just began to get out of control so I made the decision that we would not give out the numbers. We are between 10-15 teams right now on the Salmon Smackdown.. As I said even if we get no more teams a 1 in 15 shot at 15K in 100% payout is hard to beat.

I said that I do not know off hand exactly how many teams have signed up. The fact is I do not know. The entries go to a PO BOX that we check every week or two. So I do not know the exact number off hand. Haven't checked the mail in about a week.

I was not responding directly to you, but was rather making a response for all to see. Your post was simply the catalyst that caused me to write a post to answer the questions that we have been receiving. And Eddy, you are not alone, many have been asking the same questions it was not meant as any slight to you personally. As we have not met (that I am aware of) I am sure you are a great guy and a great fishermen.

The fact is that this is a Big Money Tournament. It is not for everyone. For this reason I am not trying to sell it to anyone. If you don't think you can win the $$$, then it is probably not a good idea to enter. If this was a Charity Tournament, I would be selling and trying to convince people to sign up, and support the good cause. This tournament is for all the guys that see the great fisherman out there and say to themselves, " I can beat those guys!" This is your chance. This is an opportunity for people to see how they stack up and we have some top notch fisherman entered right now. I am really excited to see how it comes out. Not just for the money and who gets the big check. But there is some serious bragging rights to be had if you win this tournament. We want to get the word out so that those that are interested and looking for this type of event know that it is here.

This first event may be a small one, and that is fine. We are not begging for more people. We see it as an opportunity for those that think they have something for the Big Boys. I hope Eddy that if you think you can compete that you sign up and give it a shot. And tell your friends it is not a Downrigger show, It is a BIG Fish Show. Love to see how the Moochers do!

Best of Luck and I hope we see you there.

Until you try to put an event like this together, you cannot anticipate all of the challenges it presents.

There are a lot of people interested in the Salmon Smackdown and I would interpret the call volume, while distracting, as a positive indication of the attention that this tournament is attracting.

I can't wait to shotgun start this drill!.. Bo, you'll have my check this week and thanks for your efforts! 8-)

Thanks Nelly!

We are excited about it. It is a bit more work than we anticipated. But most things in life seem to work out that way!

July 8th is the deadline to enter at the lower entry cost. After the 8th, the entry costs an extra $250. So get your entries sent in!

Just posted this to the Salmon Smackdown Website. Common questions that have been asked that might help answer some questions that you might have.

Please keep in mind that many of the fine details will be explained in detail at the Captains Meeting including maps of start area and other details.

FAQ

1. What’s the deal with the starting line, do they expect us to transit up to this unknown starting location in the dark?

Unfortunately, we need to have the shotgun start away from the Ferry and Shipping lanes for safety. It should be light enough before the shotgun start to make the short run. We will also not start the shotgun start until it is safe to do so.

2. If I trailer my boat up is the closest boat ramp Port Orchard? If that’s the case how do I get to the marina with my truck and trailer, where do I park at the Marina? Can I leave my trailer there?

There are a couple of nice boat ramps within short distance of the marina with ample parking. These are NO Fee launches. We will also provide secure parking for trailers at Defiance Boats which is a short distance from the boat launches (5 to 10 minutes)

3. Where is the weigh-in and what time does it close?

The weigh in will be on the Breakwater of the Bremerton Marina next the Bremerton Ferry Docks. Please read the rules about weigh in. It is scheduled to end at 5:00pm. We reserve the right to extend if we are forced to have a late start, but this change would be announced to all prior to the shotgun start at the captains meeting

4. Is he going to cancel the event is there is not the required amount of boats?

We currently have a sufficient number of teams and the tournament is a go. The tournament will pay out 100% up to 50 teams. Currently it looks like we may fall short of 50 teams so it is anticipated that we will pay 100% of entry fees back out to the winners. The payout is layed out in the rules and will follow the same formula.

If you have questions please email Bo Palmer
bo@defianceboats.com

As stated above tomorrow is the early sign up deadline. So get your registrations mailed and postmarked tomorrow to save some dough!

Thanks to all that have signed up, it is going to be a great time

Thanks for the Q & A Bo. Very helpful!
It looks like we will trailer on over so I will be looking for a decent motel close to the proceedings.
I have my team assembled and our first "practice" is this morning!
