Marine Area 4 - Neah Bay Chinook: WIDE OPEN!

Postby House » Thu Jun 23, 2011 12:11 pm

We love hearing from Mike Jamboretz of Jambo's Sportfishing but when the phone rings as he hits double figures and the pictures start arriving... It's report time!
The selective chinook season opened on June 18 and it took all of a couple hours for Jambo to land on the kings. Since then, it's been simply an issue of sorting through the wild fish to find the keepers.

With a WDFW scale sampling crew on board, the gang recording the wild chinook's vital statistics have been busy!

This wild chinook grabbed a purple back Tomic "Husky plug" and has a few scales removed for the sake of research.

There's plenty of time to get out to Neah Bay and if you want to get a trip with Mike Jamboretz, check out http://www.jambossportfishing.com/

We left the dock in time for a short bite just inside Tatoosh Island. We realeased the 2 chinook that were landed during the first hour, then headed off shore where we found a steady and consistent Chinook bite until we wrapped it up at about 2 PM. We were the only boat in sight.
The final Score was 17 Chinook, and 3 Coho landed. It was a great day of Chinook fishing with several 20lb class fish and 3 fish over 30lbs. The ratio of clipped to un-clipped was not in our favor today. It seemed like all the big ones had too many fins. What a gas it was to chase down these pigs. I LOVE SALMON!

And there's lots more where those came from Jambo. You guys should be seeing a lot more feesh heading your way. Still a slug of them up here! Talk about fun...nothing like whacking kings way offshore with no other boats around. That's cool!
