Sockeye counts through the locks have started!!!

While we keep our fingers crossed, it's unlikely we'll get a fishery but here's the story:

Thanks fro the heads up Nelly. I will be watching this closely even though when I took a look at the last few years, we are already behind.

The forecasts aren't exactly fool proof, to say the least...but they'd have to be off by quite a bit to have a fishery this year, since the forecast is for less than 35,000...bummer.

Noticed that through 6/22 that 5,319 sockeye have been counted through the locks.

For that date that is the lowest count in any of the previous 10 years and less than 10% of the some of the better years.

While still early it looks like unless this year's run is a late timed one the run maybe below forecasted.

As of yesterday, barely 7,000 sockeye total through the locks...
I think we can plan on fishing hard out in Puget Sound this summer.
Lake Washington ain't gonna happen this year.
There's always Baker Lake and Lake Wenatchee! :?

It was expected but still disappointing. it would be nice to some day be able to count on fishing sockeye, kings, and coho in the lake. What was in lake when they had a king fishery in the lake? How did guys target them?

The King fishery was a fun one for sure It was best up at the north end of the lake trolling a similar set up as the lk.sammamish king set up's (much shorter leader and slower) They were a tough fish to consistantly bite but there were a few for sure.... fun childhood memories

Anyone else remember tossing spinners at the edges of the milfoil paddies up in the north end of the lake to catch coho? Looked a lot like bass fishing, until you had a ten pound coho going berserk on the surface!

Catching a coho like a bass would be epic, talk about fun!
