Check out this press clipping that a friend just forwarded me from the PNFGY.com site.

There's more interesting historical factoids at the Pacific Northwest Fishing Golden Years website. http://users.infoconex.com/~ramrod/pnfgyhome.htm. Pretty cool :!:

Unbelievable stuff!
The popularity of those derbies rivals the furvor of professional sports today. I am so looking forward to this summer and seeing the hundreds of boats out there doin' it!

This summer is going to be solid on Puget Sound. Someday the Polar Bear will come south with me, but unfortunately it won't be this summer. It's about $4K round trip and the ol' pocket book can't support that just yet :D

Talk about nostalgic. I wasn't even there but I swear I know what it was like because this beautiful state and it's history runs through my blood. Awesome post Robbo! Sometimes I think I would rather sit back and listen to the old timer's stories from the past rather than actually fishing. Just imagine guys!!

This season will be a good one. By nature I'm an kind of an optomistic and hope for the best so whatever happens, it's gonna be good! :)

You want to talk optimism?
Lets get a handle on our double-crested cormorant populations and watch how fast Puget Sound steelhead populations rebound.
Ocean conditions are very solid right now and water conditions in our rivers over the winter were not perfect but not terrible either.
Washington could once again become a world-class fishing destination but it will take a lot of work and even more involved, passionate anglers working for the resource!

The future for our salmon and steelhead could be great! Join PSA, CCA and get in the game!!! :D

Can you imagine running a derby today that says "Japanese are barred, because they are too skillful" ???? OMG   It was a different world ..... and that was before the attack on Pearl Harbor!!

That's great that they were able to get rid of the fish traps back then, unfortunately they replaced them with gill nets.
