Columbia Bound!

Postby Nelly » Mon Apr 11, 2011 5:52 pm

Heading down to the big river in the morning despite fair to poor reports. I would love to hit A9 for the last few days but the winds forecast for the Sound have made the decision for me.
Hoping to have gear in the water by noon and I'll report back what we find! Keeping my fingers crossed! :D

I might be back from the Columbia in time to strap on the Cannons for the last day on A9... the 15th...Friday.
If you've thawed out by then and the wind quits blowin' and the wife will let me....????
I hope the fishin' is sooo good down south that we have to stay down there!

despite the forecast for 1-2 waves, 8-2 was dead calm today. no fishes though, but that's okay, just a shakedown cruise in the new boat.

We got one today below I-5 on the anchor.
After launching at Portco, we made one downstream troll...
The Columbia has no visibility... you could not see your herring to check the roll! So we dropped anchor and put the Flatfish out.

After rewrapping a plug with a herring wrap we had a drive-by so we pitched the sardine fillets, put herring wraps on the whole spread and fish on!

Fresh springer on the bbq tomorrow night! Yahoo!

Here's a shot of our one and only springer for our 24 hour trip!

You got that right t-dub!

At this point there's 788 over Bonneville and last year we had over 9700 on the same date.

You can't ignore the fact that we have less than 10% of the springers and I sincerely doubt that we will see this run meet it's forecast number.

For some reason, the Columbia River springers have been an extremely difficult run to forecast!

When you combine the high, dirty water, low temperatures and even lower numbers it adds up to a 2011 springer fishery that was pretty much a non-event :?
