The South PS tribes were rejecting the fisheries proposed by the state as not being sufficiently conservative. The estimates of coho killed by fisheries in the last agreed model run from April 19 showed the following result:
South Sound Coho (Lake Washington, Green, Puyallup, Nisqually, Deschutes and Area 13 general)
Total PSnd Tribal catch wild - 1,693
hatchery + wild - 5,543
Total PSnd sport catch wild - 202
hatchery + wild - 802
That's a Tribal:non-Indian ratio of 7:1 on total and 8:1 on wild.
Apparently not good enough for the tribes who demand "zero" coho fishing but good enough for NOAA to allow tribal fisheries.
