Resurrection Derby Report

The kind folks that organize the Resurrection Derby in Friday Harbor invited us to fish in the derby and broadcast the Outdoor Line live from the Friday Harbor Best Western again this year. We fished in this derby last year and the 2012 event was every bit as much fun. We had some serious laughs the last few days and the fishing didn't disappoint either

Derby organizer Kevin Kline joined us on the Outdoor Line on Saturday morning to chat about the derby and fishing in the islands.

Glenn Hall from Hawgguest was at the event and his film crew buzzed the fleet in a small chopper on Friday to get some killer footage. He will debut this show at the Anacortes Derby Film Festivus in late March

Island fishing legends Shane, Jim, and Jim Aagergaard Jr. hammered the hatchery fish in the derby. These guys have taught me so much about fishing in the islands.

Yet another island fishing legend Pete Nelson always entertains the crowd at these derbies by singing "Mountain Dew". He's been doing this for as long as I've been derby fishing. That's Jay Field with him...who did a bang up job at the awards dinner on Saturday night.

Second place wasn't good enough for these guys last year. They came back again and took 1st place in the 2012 Resurrection Derby. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of guys. Nice work men

Kudos to all the hard working folks that made this derby so much fun. We also need to extend a huge THANK YOU to the Best Western for providing such a clean and comfortable room. Plus...they have a killer fisherman's breakfast every morning in the lobby. Nelly, Medium D, and I had a great time and hope to be back again next year. Thanks a bunch you guys

Great report Robbo. Most of my pics where taken with your camera, so they are in your report. Just for clarification, Nelly and I are actually texting each other, as we are still not on speaking terms.
Great derby and we all had a blast. I met so many folks who have been connected with the derby series for years. Far too many names to remember, but starting to put some faces with names. Kevin Kline did a great job as organizer and it's always a blast to spend time with the Reverend. I cannot tell you guys, how much I have learned fishing with Robbo and Nelly in the Derby’s and on the salt. The learning curve is steep and every day on the water is another opportunity to take away more knowledge. Thanks to my Bosses for making is so much fun to be part of this crew. This salt thing is addicting…

Good seeing you guys up there.

I had a awesome time up there till I got to messed up off the clown oil(Crown Royal) before there awards cermony. I got called for the mystery weight, but I left before that. Once my buddies got back to the Best Western, I thought they where going to Keel Hull me. I cost myself and them a free ticket for the 2013 Resurection derby.


Well after a few days of cooling off there still talking to me. So I guess all is well, even know I was a dumb ass.

Lessons learned on all fronts. This derby is very serious and it should be taken that way.


Hopefully I'll see ya guys next year.
