Herring Brine Dye

What do you use for color when brining herring? I've heard of the Laudry Whitener stuff, but cant find it in stores. What are some other options?

Hey LM,
When I'm down on the Columbia River fishing springers, I'm a "dye guy" and it's Bad Adz bait dye for me. Chartruse or blue are my favorite colors.
In the saltwater, rock salt and a little Mrs. Stewart's Bluing are all I use.

I've looked all over for mrs stewerts and can't find it. Any leads on where to get it?

I saw some last week in the laundry soap department of Safeway

I can usually find Mrs. Stewarts at Fred Meyer in the laundry detergent isle. As for bait dyes it's pretty easy to dye your bait with Pautzke's Nectar. The yellow, blue, and green Nectar is all good for herring.

I'm a big fan of brine and bite it works great and goes a lnog way , Bad Adz is also great and lets you dye on the go

How much P-nectar do you add to a brine mixture for color ?

Kinda depends on how much water you use Jade. If I want to dye up a dozen or so I'll throw them in a small Tupperware container and just barely cover them with Nectar. Half a bottle will work in a gallon of water to give them some color. The green alien blood Nectar is kind of hard to come by...when you find it buy it up. Also works good for halibuts
