Tobeck You Win. Tuna Fishing is Frickin Cool!

after multiple cancellations for weather this year and last, finally got to go out tuna fishing with Mark from AllWashington Charters. the ocean was damn near flat for the 70 mile run SW of Westport (guess it's one weather extreme or another for me). started seeing tuna about 50 miles out, but didn't really get into them until about 65 miles. flat ocean made for good eyes. i enjoyed hanging out in the tuna tower spotting birds and tuna boiling. never picked any up on the troll, but would slide up alongside and were able to get 3 decent bait stops going. really frickin cool when you're feeding your anchovy out and you can start to feel him freak out, then line starts peeling off your reel. hard to do that 5 count, but after that, engage the drag and oh crap, these things are powerful! has to be pretty funny watching 4 rookies all with tuna on, doing the dance around each other on a blood soaked deck. all the tuna were really good sized. we ended up with 22 in the box. don't think any were less than 20#, with at least 6 being at least 30# (by scale, not eyeball). rest of the guys wanted to head in early to try and get some salmon, so with a tear in my eye and a little sniffle :D , we headed back east. Mark runs a great boat and i'm sure i'll go out with him next year if i can't glom on to someone else's boat next summer. gonna have a busy day canning today.

Great report 'dub!
Mark is a great guy and runs a solid operation!

Seriously though, you are literally killing Tobeck. When he sees this report there will be a 911 call somewhere on the east side of Lake Washington.

One more observation: You may have single-handedly re-started Tobeck's tuna season..

Robbie: take Robbo with you... my back is killing me!

That is a good day of tuna fishin' especially this year, nice report.

Nelly, you are probably right; when I talked to Tobeck last week he was disgusted and "all done with tuna for the year". It will be interesting to see if he can resist...

Hey Tobeck... I've got gas money...

Tuna fishing is cool and Nelly, you are correct I am dying over here. It's nothing for me to get the gear back on the boat and head back to Westport. I think I might go to Ilwaco if I go though.
