Westport Chinook

Postby Cosmic_Coho » Thu Jul 21, 2011 5:57 am

Fished Westport yesterday, Wed. 20th. Patchy fog/drizzle gave way to sunny skies, and flat seas.
First 3 hours was rather disappointing, as it was a wild coho release festival. But as the sun came out, tide changed around noon, I dropped an "army truck" ace-hi, baited with a herring strip, down 115 ft. on the wire, and BAM, 2 kings in 20 minutes were in the box!
The larger one took the longest run I have ever seen, spooling me down to the last few wraps on my reel. Fortunatley had a capable skipper on board, who chased him down like a champ. I respooled as soon as I got home!

We fished straight out, in 240ft. of water down 115ft. for the Kings.
The Coho were all thru the water column, I was even picking them up 125ft. down. Most had too many fins, and all were small, 4-8 lbs.
