I would put my money on a "team" fishing Canadian or Alaskan waters.

How are sign-ups going at this point? This is an awesome idea for a tournament and gives the cream the ability to rise to the top. I can't wait to see this thing go off. I will be hosting the show by myself to give Nelly the ability to fish that weekend, GO TEAM OUTDOOR LINE!!!

We are having Ken Pinnell of QCove on the show this coming Saturday to give us the latest on the SMACKDOWN!
Suffice it to say, I'm looking forward to hearing from "Flasher" on this one but I'm even more fired up to fish this tournament! :P

You guys said "we are checking in with Ken to see how the tournament is going." Having read all the rules, http://www.salmonsmackdown.com and asking a couple of questions it seems I know less after listening to Ken.

How many teams are signed up? It seems this question was carefully avoided? Where exactly is the SHOT GUN start? All my favorite Seahawk would say is ["some where around Jeff Head" ]Are you required to stay in Bremerton over night.?

I love the radio program.

The Shotgun start will be "near" jeff head. At the Captains Meeting all of this stuff will be shared and a map of the Starting line will be given to all of the captains. Feel free to call with any questions. We get asked every day, how many people have entered. In Fact probably 10 times a day. Why does it matter? We are paying out 100% up to 50 teams. We have around 10-15 teams signed up right now, I do not know the exact number off hand. We will get more last minute sign ups. But what is wrong with a 1 in 15 chance at $15,000. You won't find those odds at any tournament, anywhere! If you think you got what it takes sign up. If you are worried about it, then this is probably not for you.

We are not desperate to get more teams, frankly in a lot of ways a little smaller tournament for the first year is less stressful. It will be a fun event and someone is going to take home a big check. All they have to do is outfish everyone else!

The main point is that We Will Fish the Tournament. We already have enough teams to fish it, so it will fish. The more teams that sign up, the bigger the check.

Who thinks that they can beat Nelly? Post below if you have to guts to! This is the Smackdown, let's hear some smack talk.

Look forward to seeing you guys there!

I have assembled a team of crack salmon anglers to compete in this event.

After having them pull up their pants, I will ask them to identify themselves...

You are not required to stay the night in Bremerton, however that is the center of all of the tournament activity. The Captain's Meeting on Friday evening, the fish weigh in, the awards, etc will all take place in Bremerton. The tournament has arranged a discount for slips and there is a hotel right there. If you wanted to travel back and forth each day, there are no rules preventing it (example: If you live near Seattle and would rather come over by boat each day to the tournament - that is O.K.)

The shotgun start will take place between Blake Island & Jeff Head. The exact location will be disclosed to all participating teams at the captain's meeting. Since this area is transited by the WA Ferries, we have been working with the USCG to determine the exact location. If you have never been to a tournament with a shotgun start, then the excitement will be hard to describe in writing. You get to see your competition right alongside of you. You get to see which direction they choose and it makes you wonder if you have chosen correctly.

With all boats leaving from a common starting point, strategy plays an important factor in deciding where to fish. Some may decide to run further to potentially better fishing but have less time actually fishing. Others may stay close to the start point and get maximum fishing time. Or you may choose a different strategy for each day. This is some of the excitement of a two day tournament. Each teams aggregate weight for two days rather than one lucky fish. To win this event, you will need a good strategy and consistency.

If you have any questions, please contact us as we are more than happy to try and answer them all.

Think you have what it takes? Then round up some team mates and join the fun......someone is walking away with a nice payday!
