With the tribes it's an all or nothing deal. Either all of the tribes within the Puget Sound and NWIFC agree to the proposal or there is no deal. The Puyallup tribe and Muckleshoot tribes are the two that were not in agreement of the previous proposals submitted by the WDFW. The Puyallup tribe was demanding no fishing sport fishing in the Puyallup River this season, despite the fact that they have already had a gillnet opening for spring chinook in May. If the information reported by King 5 is accurate, it may mean that the Muckleshoots crossed the picket line and approved the proposal. The only question is at what cost? The Muckleshoots wanted no fishing in marine areas 9, 10 and 11 this summer. It appeared that Directir Unsworth was extremely opposed to this as it would eliminate much of the opportunity for a large portion of the population.
It would be nice to get some updates from the state on how these talks are going in a press release of some kind. Anyone have any info on if they have updates coming out?
