A little Humpback Porn

Postby ripalip » Sun Jun 19, 2011 6:03 pm

I am not sure if Robbo has started something with the Humpbacks, but they came down to his home this weekend. I had clients from Texas out fishing Saturday when a very large Humpback surfaces 20 yards from my Northriver while running through the Narrows in Tacoma. Scared the bajesus out of all of us. We spent 20 min watching it dive and then surface a few hundred feet away. My clients were stoked, this is something they don't have in Galveston...

Today I am fishing with my buddy Jim Komonce of Tacoma when the same whale breaches twice in front of us near Gig Harbor. Jim was able to get a great shot of the second breach. We spent another 15 min watching it tail slap and play, then headed North to Calvos Passage. First time in 35 years I have ever seen a Humpback in our local waters.

Holy crap...that's awesome! Mighta been the one we hooked into yesterday that blew up one of my Tekota reels. Was there an orange 5 ounce mooching sinker hanging off of it anywhere :)

It must have been a cousin.... It was an amazing site to see. I told my buddy that took the pictures about your run in and the Tekota blowing up...
