The 9th Annual Anacortes Salmon Derby, which would have started today had it not been for last month’s fishing closure in Marine Area 7, is still in the minds of NW derby anglers. In keeping true to their mission, the Anacortes Salmon Derby Board will continue to solicit donations in order to provide scholarships and grants to young adults pursuing careers in fishery management and related fields.
All proceeds from the derby and other fundraising efforts go to a scholarship fund, that to-date, has provided nearly $260,000 in scholarships and grants. Because of the cancellation, we are looking at alternative ways to fund scholarships. If you were planning to enter this derby, and are so inclined, we ask that you donate any portion of the money you would have spent on entry fees, food, beverage, or lodging, to the scholarship fund. As a true 501(c)3 charity, your donation may be tax deductible. Donations can be made by going directly to anacortessalmonderby.com. Thank you for your support.
