Halibut season is coming

Postby salmonhunter1 » Sun Mar 15, 2015 4:20 pm

In am wanting to go to NeaH Bay and Maybe Sekiu for Halibut if I can get there before it closes bangheadwall . I have read a lot on Neahbay saying Swift Shore and Garage dump. But do not have a clue about Sekiu, anyone have a gps area to start looking?
Like I said I'm just planning things for now.

We fish Sekiu every Memorial Day week end. We have learned to fish for halibut there by following the other boats and talking to folks on the docks. Where we go depends pretty much on the currents. Some people with electric reels go straight out from Sekiu in 500 or more feet of water to fish. Others anchor up or drift fish West of Kadaka Point out in the flats. Some run down to Pillar Point and anchor or drift between Slip Point and Pillar Point. We've caught halibut and ling out around the bell at Slip Point and drifting across Sekiu Bay.
The beauty of Sekiu is that when area 4 is open at the same time you can run into area 4 and bring your catch back to area 5. Weather permitting you have a lot of choices.
It's fishing. Nothing is a sure thing. Some years are better then others and you catch fish in different areas than the year before.
Good luck.

That you for the info. And I'm guessing your using a hoochiee with a horse herring.... Lol I still have tentacle from those squid that came there years ago, thinking of trying them out also.

I wish one day those squid come back, God they where great eating.

Hoochie with herring strip, naked herring, octopus, we have used them all. Herring works the best I think. We even tried those underwater blinking lights that Robb did a review of. We caught halibut with them in a big squid on Dallas Bank.
Those squid coming into the bay was amazing. Our friends that live there stocked up on the calamari. Got inked in the process. The squid eat a lot of salmon so no one wants them to return.

Well I'm glad I'm thinking what your saying. If that makes since.
I also have the blinking lights I used them on kinds and silvers last season and they caught more fish on those lures then others, so I'm hooked on blinking Hoochies.
So big white or green blinking Hoochies with a special big hering put inside.
