Extra floater spoon ? for Nellie

Postby kurtmiller » Mon Jul 01, 2013 1:51 pm

Tom, sometime ago I saw a short video you did with instructions on how to rig a spoon onto the line after it is down on the 'rigger, following to the belly of the line. Was looking for a refresher on how you rigged that on the resource page and elsewhere but I can't find it anywhere. Where did it go, or did you take it down for some reason? With Humpy season looming I would love to hook on a cotton candy or strawberries and cream Coho Killer just to up the odds, specifically for Salmon for Soldiers event coming up in Aug. Kurt

I actually looked at it the other day and was also intrigued.

Thanks Rock, that's the one. My only concern is what happens if you hit a fish on that rig? Won't it go all the way down to your terminal gear where it will find a flasher and another spoon? Couldn't that create a whale of a mess as well as lose the fish? Well unless Nellie comes back here with a response I may give it a go at the Bubble on Saturday, it's kind of a shakeout/crabbing/Bubble to kill some time and get everything tuned while the pots soak. But I sure would like to talk to someone who has actually caught a fish on that rig.

Hey KM & Rock!
Sorry for my late response but I've been up in the San Juans grinding out a few strikes.
I'll post up some pics later but to answer your question....

Yup, when you hook up on the Slider Spoon you're gonna have a bit of a mess to clean up but I have not lost any fish because of the slider...

Quite to the contrary, if you weren't running that spoon...you probably wouldn't have hooked that mid-water column critter in the first place!!! spy

Cool, thanks Nelly! You are right... if I catch 1 extra fish doing that, I can deal with a mess... heck you get those anyway when flashers get tangled and since no flasher is attached to the extra spoon, it shouldn't be that bad. Gonna hit the Bubble this weekend while some pots soak. Actually it's more of a shakedown trip for the Millertime to make sure everything is ready for the Salmon For Soldiers event.
