A question for Forum members:

Postby Salmonhawk » Fri Feb 11, 2011 4:46 pm

I know that a couple of organizations sent out voter voice notifications to get people to comment via email regarding some of the pending legislation that concerns recreational anglers. One figure I heard, and this is strictly hearsay, is that out of 5,000 sent, only 600 anglers bothered to take the time to shoot an email. I'm just wondering what needs to be done to get people to spend the 3-5 minutes to act on critical legislation that really concerns all of us? What should the message be? How can the message be better communicated? Helpful suggestions or ideas please.

I feel your pain Rob.

Sport fishermen are some of the biggest bitchers and do nothingers that I have ever come across. :(

With all the passion some in our sport have you would think it would be different.

I agree...bitch and moan and piss and whine about everything and then bitch some more about paying $25 dollars for CCA or $30 for PSA. 5000 people sending in that little bit of money helps put a lobbyist in the grill of our legislators in Olympia. Don't contribute to the cause and see what happens. Been there...done that

I have no idea what can be done, but I do know that most people I talk to have no clue what happens. I did send my reps a e-mail.

Here is Hans reply
Dear Colin:
Thank you for your email. I don't like this bill either. I sponsored it out of respect for the Governor and to the keep the discussion going.

Sincerely,
Hans

Was this guy appointed by the governor or elected by the people? Spineless politicians like this guy are the problem. We need some people to stand up and do the right thing. "I don't like this bill either but I sponsored it" makes me sick, what a coward!

I could not figure out why the conversation could not keep going without these bills.

That's what I was thinking Tobeck. Didn't Dunshee support the crab allocation shift :?:

This is Steve Hobbs reply, he doesn't say where he stands..

Colin,

Thanks for the email regarding SB 5669 relating to the consolidation of certain natural resources agencies and programs. This bill has been heard in the Senate Committee for Natural Resources & Marine Waters, which I do not sit on. However, it looks as if this bill has not yet gained much traction here in the Senate or the House. Should either bill begin to move and make it before me on the Senate floor for consideration, I will keep your thoughts in mind. Thanks for sharing your concerns and please feel free to contact me again in the future if I can be of any further assistance.
