Lk Stevens Kokanee Question

Postby LisaMarie » Fri May 09, 2014 5:05 am

When Attaching a hoochie or a wedding ring to a Dodger, a few things...

#1) what lbs test line between lure and dodger?

#2) Length, I've heard 12-14"

#3)Do you tie directly to Dodger or tie a loop in lure leader and attach to Dodger via a snap swivel?

hoping to put a few kokes in the boat for my daugther for the Derby. We are going to be rowing a blue Lavro drift boat. Say hi if you see us....

LisaMarie-
Hopefully one of the kokanee gurus/Lake Stevens guides will chime in . However here is how I generally rig my gear.

Part of the "mad scientist" aspect of the kokanee game is frequent changes of gear. I pre-tie all my gear with a cross-lock snaps or swivels on the end leader to allow easy gear changes. I tie most of my gear on 10# leaders; usually a fluorocarbon though often go to a stiffer UG maximum 10 or even 15# for hoochies.

As general rule the more action a lure has on its own the longer I tie my leaders. Short leaders for hoochies (typically 9 to 12 inches long). For spinner rigs I vary the length quite a bit (fish will show preferences for shorter or longer leaders) from 14 to 30 inches with 18 to 20 inches being typically. For active lures like apexes and wee-tads my leaders are in the 30 inch range.
