Keeper Halibut

Postby Crazyfisher » Thu May 08, 2014 1:06 pm

So there is that line of keeper Halibut vs. too big (keeping a fish that some would say let go to produce more next year). Where is that line in Puget Sound and Eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca? I wouldn't want to be that guy at the dock.

Keep he biggest Hali I catch, or turn back anything over 4 feet?

Opener tomorrow, better answer quick!

Good luck to everyone as well

We go by the WSL (wife slot limit) when keeping fish. She wants fish between 25 to 60 lbs for our personal halibut supply. We are fortunate enough to catch plenty of halibut, so we just keep the best ones. If we lived where the supply was more limited I'd be happy keeping a bigger fish. It is exciting seeing 200 to 300 pounders come up but the quality of meat isn't that good. I caught a 225 last year when out with a friend and was going to cut it loose but he said his wife wanted one to can. Traded that fish for a 40 and we were both happy. Good luck guys........... Here is the wifes idea of halibut fishing dump the skate and find a beach to explore
