Halibut season is getting closer!

Postby BigFish » Fri Mar 14, 2014 1:31 pm

I have been halibut fishing plenty of times but it has been with a charter. Finally getting out there with our boat. I would like to know when it is best to drift or anchor up? Also, where to fish around sekiu/ neah bay and areas closer in the puget sound?

I drift for all my halibut in Neah bay and I anchor when fishing the inside. Lets be honest in Washington if you want to just catch a halibut, Table rock or U.S Swiftsure are just about your best bet! The abundance of fish there is what makes the coast a "must fish"! Places like the Garbage dump and Duncan rock are really good options if you are hesitant or have a less comfortable boat on a nasty day. That being said there are plenty of opportunity's to bring home a flatty on the inside. Mutiny bay, Admiralty bay and possession bar produce good amounts of fish each year and you will benefit greatly from going to a seminar like John Beaths on Thursday or stopping in at local tackle shops and asking questions! thumbup Also i saw this great video on anchoring a few days ago! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NGiDkU ... e=youtu.be
