Small Boat Fishing

While I don't have a lot of info for you on ins and outs of the different types of boats I can say this. By going with a smaller boat (16-20ft) it is everything you will need for fishing the sound. I rocked a 18ft glasply for 6 years and I ran all over the place in it. Midchanel, no point, Jeff head, poss bar, out to the banks for Hali and as far west as seiku. I now got a 23ft striper that I've had for a year. At times I do miss my glasply. I found myself mooching a lot last summer and it was much much easier movin around the glasply then my striper is. Wish I could have both. Big reason I went up in length was I'm 275 and I was tired of stepping to a side of my boat and feeling like I was gonna sink us. That and I wanted a little more range. I also could get away with splashing my boat in the water in just about every ramp around(a lot of Ramps in kitsap are just concrete slabs, no point is puttin one in that I wish I could splash my new boat in but I doubt it).

I have been looking at boats in this class as well. I love my 16' Tracker, but it is an open boat and my son-in-law goes about 350+. I would prefer to stay with at least 18 deg dead rise. I am looking closely at the 20' Thunder Jet Luxor OB, and the 20' Hewescraft Pro-V. I really like the fit and finish on these boats, storage, and fishing space. Also, I have heard great things from the people who currently own them. I like the lines on the 20' Alumaweld Blackhawk but am a little concerned how it would handle the rough water. I am probably a year out from upgrading, but I am doing my homework now.
