Nootka Sound

I am headed to Nootka Sound for the first time ever (pretty excited) .

I am wondering if any of you salty dogs have any tricks of the trade up there on what to use and where to go.

Any must bring items. Leave at home items

Or any other awesome information.

Would greatly appreciate the help as I would like to make this a successful trip for my father and I.

Hey Rock!
Leave the herring at home and run anchovies!
Cuttlefish squid or hoochies in glo-white are killer and there is a large Tomic spoon they call the "Pilchard"... Get geared up at Campbell River Sporting Goods!
They will have the schizzle!
You'll kill 'em! I went last year with Nootka Marine Adventures and we had a ball hooking over 40 chinook & coho!

We are heading out the 24th of July and there till Sunday. We are staying at Critter Cove. Looks like a nice little joint that got there. We found them at the Puyallup Sportsman show.

I have heard it has been a little slow there as of late but picking up! I am trying to get my summer fishing muscles back.

Nelly how were you running those anchovies?
Helmets, plug cut?

For the nearshore fishery. Rhys Davis Achovy Special helmets. Square toothpicks (to get the best spin). Rocksalt. Dry ice (for preseving frozen bait for the travel up and storage while there). The best and smallest 'chovies you can find.

For the highway. 6 and 7" Tomic plugs. Big spoons work great but will hook more coho creating downtime if you're targeting the migrating chinook out there. Whole herring (blue/purple) if they're being picky. All of which are sardine/pilchard imitators.

Thanks J.D. ! Only question I have for you about the Highway is where is it? I know that it is off shore and where the migrating salmon are flying by I just haven't been able to narrow it down is it by the reef or further out?
