Sonar Image vs. Structure Scan Image

Dan Carney requested some images from my HDS unit so that he could start discerning fish images on his own Elite 5 DSI. In the midst of a ridiculous coho bite yesterday I ran into the cabin and snapped a couple of photos with my camera showing the school of silvers on the HDS unit.

Here you can see the mass of silvers under the boat.

And here's what they look like on the side scanning image. Sorry...no time to hit the Down Scan button, as things were unraveling quickly on the back deck. As you can see the salmon appear much the same on the Structure Scan as they do on the sonar, only from a side view.

Great shots there Robbo, are you starting to see some size to those silvers? A few customers of mine have been bagging 18lbers in Juneau.

The silvers are averaging between 5 and ten pounds with a 12'er in the mix here and there.

I've been playing around with the down scan overlay as well.
The differing frequencies have their definite advantages.
One thing is certain, the more time you spend with Lowrance gear, the more you come to understand and appreciate it!
