Sidearm

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a good sidearm to cary for personal protection during Archery season. I know that there are some rules and regulations around this topic especially if I want to leagally hunt bear & cougar with it. I'm leaning towards a .44 revolver but would like to hear your thoughts.

My personal favorite is 357 Mag. With the right loads and a well placed shot it will stop anything in these woods on four legs (or two). This is probably one of those controversial topics which can start a lively debate, such as: Religion, Politics, or the best caliber to kill a deer (grin).
