Some friends had a similar experience hunting caribou in the Aleutians. Sucks to lose hard-earned venison, but it's not worth it to lose your life over. I quit taking naps in the middle of the day after a close call with a big black bear on a peak in the North Cascades in the early 90's. I used to love taking off my boots and zonking out in a meadow or on a big rock in the sun. With all the cats and bears around I skip the siesta nowadays and keep on hunting
